Prayers to the Lord and Saints for Travelers

Prayers for safe travel and protection on a journey.

Troparion for Travelers, Tone 2

O Christ, Who art the Way and the Truth, send now Thy Guardian Angel to accompany Thy servant, as once to Tobias, keeping him safe and sound, preserving him from all evil in all prosperity, unto Thy glory, through the prayers of the Theotokos, O Thou Who alone lovest mankind.

Kontakion for Travelers, Tone 2

O Savior, Who didst journey with Luke and Cleopas to Emmaus, travel now with Thy servant, who wishes to travel, delivering him from every evil circumstance; for Thou canst do all things, if Thou wilt, as the Lover of mankind.

Prayer to the Lord for Travelers

O Lord Jesus Christ our God, the true and living Way, Who didst deign to journey with Thy guardian Joseph, and Thy most pure Virgin Mother into Egypt, and didst accompany Luke and Cleopas on their way to Emmaus! And now we humbly pray Thee, O all-holy Master: accompany now by Thy grace this Thy servant .

And send unto him as to Thy servant Tobias, an angel as a guide and guardian, protecting and delivering him from every evil assault of enemies both visible and invisible, directing him to the fulfillment of Thy commandments, sending him on his way peacefully, profitably, and soundly, and bringing him back again safely and in peace; and grant him all his good intentions, successfully to complete them to Thy glory in a manner well-pleasing to Thee.

For Thine it is to have mercy and to save us, and unto Thee we send up glory, with Thy Beginningless Father, and Thy Most Holy, Good, and Life-creating Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker

O all-holy Nicholas, outstanding servant of the Lord, our warm intercessor and speedy helper in every sorrow. Help me, a sinner and despondent, in this present life; entreat the Lord God to grant me remission of all my sins which I have committed from my youth, in all my life, in deed, word, thought, and all my senses; and at the departure of my soul help me, the wretch; entreat the Lord God, the Creator of all creation, to deliver me from the aerial tollhouses and eternal torment, that I may ever glorify the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and thy merciful intercession, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Troparion, Tone 4

A rule of faith and model of meekness,/ a teacher of abstinence/ did the truth of thy deeds/ manifest thee to thy flock;/ therefore, thou didst acquire by humility greatness,/ by poverty riches./ O father and hierarch Nicholas,/ pray unto Christ God// that our souls may be saved.

Kontakion, Tone 3

In Myra, O saint, thou didst show thyself to be a performer of the sacred mysteries;/ for having fulfilled the Gospel of Christ, O venerable one,/ thou didst lay down thy life for thy people,/ and didst save the innocent from death;// therefore, thou hast been sanctified as a great initiate of the grace of God.

Prayer to Saints Cyril and Mary, the Parents of Saint Sergius of Radonezh

O servants of God, Schemamonk Cyril and Schemanun Mary! Hearken unto our humble prayer. For though you have ended your temporal life, yet in spirit you depart not from us, ever teaching us to walk in the commandments of the Lord, and helping us to carry our cross with patience.

For behold, together with our venerable and God-bearing Father Sergius, your beloved son, you have acquired boldness before Christ our God and His Most Pure Mother.

Therefore, be now also intercessors and advocates for us, the unworthy servant of God . Be unto us strong protectors, that, living by faith and preserved by your intercessions, we may remain unharmed by demons and evil men, glorifying the Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Great Martyr Procopius

O holy Passion-bearer of Christ, Procopius! Hear us sinners, who now stand before thy holy icon and pray unto thee with compunction: pray for us, the servant of God , unto Jesus Christ our God, and to His Mother who gave Him birth, our Lady the Theotokos, that He may remit the sins we have committed.

Entreat of the Lord mercy, peace, and blessing for our spiritual and bodily benefit, that we all may be delivered on the dread day of judgment, saved from the part on the left, and placed on the right with His elect to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven; for unto Him is due all glory, honor, and worship, with His Beginningless Father, and His All-Holy, Good, and Life-creating Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Forty Martyrs of Sebaste

O Passion-bearers of Christ, who suffered courageously in the city of Sebaste! To you, as our intercessors, we run with fervor and pray: entreat of the All-merciful God forgiveness of our sins and the amendment of our life, that, having lived in repentance and unfeigned love for one another, we may stand with boldness before the Dread Judgment Seat of Christ, and by your intercession stand on the right hand of the Righteous Judge.

Yea, O saints of God, be protectors for us, Thy servant , from all enemies visible and invisible, that under the shelter of your holy prayers we may be delivered from all troubles, evils, and misfortunes until the last day of our life, and so glorify the great and worshipful name of the All-active Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
