Prayer for One Suffering from Addiction

A prayer to the Martyr Boniface for deliverance from addiction, sobriety, and return to the life of the Church.

O much-suffering and all-praised Martyr Boniface! We now resort to thine intercession. Reject not our prayers, but mercifully hear us. Heal our brother , who is possessed by the grievous sickness of drunkenness and is falling away thereby from his mother, the Church of Christ, and from eternal salvation.

O holy Martyr of Christ, touch his heart with the grace given thee by God; swiftly raise him from sinful falls and lead him to saving self-restraint.

Entreat the Lord God, for Whose sake thou didst suffer, that, having forgiven our transgressions, He turn not His mercy away from His people, but strengthen him in sobriety and purity. May He help him by His right hand to preserve his saving resolve to the end, that, keeping watch day and night in His service, he may give a good answer at the dread Judgment.

Accept, O favorite of God, the prayers of mothers who shed tears for their children; of honorable wives who weep for their husbands; of abandoned and destitute children forsaken by drunkards; and of all of us who fall down before thine icon. May this cry of ours, through thy prayers, reach the throne of the Most High. Protect and preserve us from the evil one’s snares and from every device of the enemy.

At the dread hour of our departure, help us pass unhindered through the trials of the air; by thy prayers deliver us from eternal condemnation, and may the mercy of God cover us unto the endless ages of ages. Amen.
