Prayer Before an Operation
First, a moleben for the sick should be served.
At the end, the following prayer is said:
O Almighty Master, Holy King, Who chastens but does not put to death, Who upholds those who fall and raises up those who have been cast down, and Who heals the bodily sufferings of mankind: we beseech You, our God, visit Your suffering servant in Your mercy and forgive him every voluntary and involuntary sin. Yes, O Lord, send down from heaven Your healing power, that it may guide the mind and hand of Your servant, the physician , so that he may perform the necessary surgery successfully; and grant that Your suffering servant may be completely healed of his bodily illness, and that every hostile assault may be driven far from him. Raise him from his bed of sickness and grant him health in soul and body, that he may please You and do Your will.
Priest: For Yours it is to show mercy and save us, O our God, and to You we give glory: to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
